Use this one-page worksheet to compare two paper samples with your own tools. Record the labels first, try the same small exercise on each, and keep your observations together.

Before you start

  1. Give each sample a short name and copy its surface, gsm and composition from the label.
  2. Choose the tools and paint you intend to use. Record them once for the comparison.
  3. Try a fine line, a small wash and a dry brush mark, or substitute three marks relevant to your work.
  4. Look at both samples again when dry. Record what you observed, without assuming the surface was the only difference.

This is a suggested comparison exercise, not a standardized laboratory test. Keep the actual samples with the sheet if you want a visual reference for future purchases.
